Pitching / Presentation of new business ideas

Do you have an idea for a new business and wonder if it will take off?   Are you already in business and would you like to get some feedback on your presentation skills? This is your chance to pitch to a panel of Industry
Experts. The panel will evaluate your idea, give constructive advice and answer any questions you have. This is an opportunity for you to see if your start up idea has legs and get constructive advice on how to move your business forward. Applicants will have to fill out an application form in advance to book a pitching slot. Note that this event will take place in the DCU Ryan Academy, Citywest Business Campus, Dublin 24. This event is sponsored by Invent DCU and the DCU Ryan Academy.

Mini Mobile Conference in DCU

Get Mobile 2010 is a free mini conference on mobile marketing and mobile commerce, that is being held at DCU on the 17th November, as part of the Innovation Dublin Festival. The miniconference is organised by DCU Business School and the LINK Research Centre and supported by North Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
The miniconference comprises a plenary, commencing at 14.00, that includes leading Irish experts and CEOs in mobile marketing and m-commerce including John O’Shea (Zamano), Donald Douglas (Return2Sender), Ken Nugent (ICAP Media), Quentin O’Reilly (Samsung Mobile Ireland), and Paul Conroy (Daft Media).
This will be followed by three breakout sessions, commencing at 1640:
1. Mobile Marketing Strategy – Getting Started
2. Mobile Marketing Tools
3. Designing and Developing Apps for Novices
The breakout sessions include speakers from a number of the leading Irish firms in this area including Return2Sender, Puca, Adikat Mobile Marketing, Fern Software, Samsung Mobile Ireland, Daft Media, FeedHenry and others.
There are additional details here. While the event is free, places are limited to those who register. At this stage, there is a limited number of spaces for the plenary session but can cater for a wider audience for the breakout sessions.

Biomimicry Workshop in Ireland

Here is another interesting event taking place as part of Innovation Dublin:
Biomimicry is an emerging discipline that Emulates Nature’s Genius putting Sustainability at the Heart of Innovation. Sustainable Value Creation Ltd. and partners are delighted to announce the First Biomimicry Workshop at Dublin Zoo, Phoenix Park, Ireland on the 22-24th November, directly following Innovation Dublin 2010.

 

The workshop is hosted by Josephine Brennan, Founder SVC, and will be facilitated by Certified Biomimicry Professionals Claire Janisch and Zeynep Arhon. Claire and Zeynep are co-trainers with Dayna Baumeister and Erin Leitch for The Biomimicry Institute’s Biomimicry Professionals Program.

"Innovating for Good" Event on 11th November

The Innovation Dublin Festival is an exciting opportunity to promote and celebrate innovation in the city. For the first time, this year’s festival includes an event highlighting the impact and potential of Social Enterprise.

“Innovating for Good: Social Enterprise” will take place from 10:00am to 12:00 noon on Thursday 11th November 2010 at Wood Quay Venue, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8.

The keynote speaker will be Gerry Higgins, Chief Executive of CEiS (Community Enterprise in Scotland). Other speakers will include Maurice Healy, former President of IBEC and Chairperson of the Social Enterprise Task Force, and Paul O’Sullivan, Chief Executive of Clann Credo, the Social Investment Fund.

Free Social Entrepreneurs Speaker Panel in November

We are happy to announce that the Ryan Academy will be hosting a social entrepreneurship/social enterprise talk in association with South Dublin County Council as part of Innovation Dublin week which takes place in November. The event, is on in the county library in Tallaght at 4 pm on Wednesday the 17th of November.

After an introduction from yours truly, the speakers will be giving a short talk on each of their social enterprises being:

Killian Stokes – Founder and CEO of mygoodpoints.org one of the 2009 winners of the Vodafone Ireland Foundation World of Difference programme.

John Murphy – CEO of Speedpak and one of the winners of this years Arthur Guinness Fund Social Entrepreneurs Award.

Michael Kelly – Founder and CEO of GIY (Grow it Yourself) who is also a winner of this year Arthur Guinness award as well as a Social Entrepreneurs Ireland awardee and Ashoka Fellow.

This will be followed by a Q&A session with the panelists.
