Ecomagination Competition Projects Mapped

We already had a mapping of social enterprise in the UK on the social enterprise blog, now we have a nifty plotting of the GE Ecomagination projects courtesy of Fast Company’s design site. The GE Challenge competition is a $200 million fund for an open call for ideas for saving the world, in three categories: renewables, grid efficiency, and eco buildings, which closes in a few days.

GE has plotted the ideas on a nice visualisation graph, where each dot represents an idea, the bigger the dot the more votes it has gotten and each is colour coordinated for the three areas. The halo around it represents the comments it has received, the bigger the halo, the more comments it has received. It would have been nice to see something similar for the Your Country Your Call competition here in Ireland, as it also had a voting system similar to the GE competition.

The Challenge ideas include everything from a wind powered clothes dryer, to a social network that promotes household energy efficiency through behavioral nudges. Anyone thinking of getting into the eco, sustainability or green technology area would do well to examine the trends and see what people are developing.
