Honda and Toyota Hybrids

Although we tend to think of Toyota (‘where’s the quality control again?”) as the king of the hybrid, Honda is now taking a shot with their third generation of Honda Civic Hybrids as part of their  new line of electric vehicles. These are due to be available in Japan and the US during 2011 but no new details have been announced, apart from the usual leaks about their Civic hybrid.

Meanwhile Toyota and Tesla Motors have announced a partnership that  will see them begin developing an electric version of the RAV4, Toyota’s popular mid-size sport utility vehicle. The Tesla generator model of RAV4 will be produced and distributed by Toyota in 2012.

In the book ‘Nudge’, the authors explain the relative success of Toyota’s hybrid in relation to other hybrid models by the fact that the Toyota Prius is easily identifiable as a hybrid or ‘green’ car. People want to buy green cars to help the environment but there’s also an element of boasting your eco-credentials with these things.

I wonder if the new Honda models will be distinguishable as hybrid cars?
