NDRC Start-Ups Highlighted

The Sunday Business Post this week highlighted a number of start-ups that are being supported by the National Digital Research Centre. This brings back memories for me as I was involved in the successful bid for the NDRC that Dublin City University was part of many years ago, after the disaster of the MIT Media Lab which the NDRC was to replace.

The NDRC initiative is called the ‘Launchpad’ and the resulting start-ups cover a range of technologies from tracking music piracy to street navigation for blind people to translating unused loyalty points into cash for charities (this one is covered in more detail in the Ryan Academy Social Enterprise blog).

The location of the NDRC in the Digital Hub is important as we highlighted how vital high technology clusters are in the Ryan Academy Green Technologies blog recently. Linking higher education research, larger companies and start-ups is a vital ingredient of what they call the triple helix, and more information on high technology clusters is available for free on the Ryan Academy Research & Insights page.
