Green Claims Not True?

Interesting article in the Irish Sunday Times today that claims that a report out slams the green credentials of some of the UK’s big firms. There is no doubt that sustainability is now being seen as a key objective by many large companies in part due to public demand for more transparency in the area.

The report claims that over 80% of the UK’s biggest companies fail to back up claims that they make about the size of their carbon footprints. The report is compiled by Carbon Smart  a consultancy company.

Are companies rightfully being accused of ‘green washing’ as the report claims? Better, independent verification and acceptable international standards for how these analysis are conducted will be needed if the public are to have confidence in the claims that companies make in the future.
