Career 2.0

With the current downturn there are a lot of people either being made redundant or are taking early retirement. Is this an opportunity for the social, voluntary and charity sector? The US firm Civic Ventures in a survey in 2009 identified that 58% of 50 year olds surveyed in the U.S. said they wanted a second career that would make their community a better place.  One of the issues in the sector is a lack of manpower and professional skills in key areas.

Perhaps we need some form of system to identify and attract some of these people. Particularly those who are in early retirement or semi-retirement, indeed many of these come from civil service and higher education backgrounds. Food for thought.
